Problem, solution.
At my day job, I wear a headset. It's got a cord that coils so it can stretch just like the phone in the kitchen at your mom's or maybe grandma's house. Those coils are great for stretching, but terrible for tangles. No matter how carefully I put away my headset it always ends up in knots.

One of the women at work suggested a cord cozy. Wrap those coils in fabric so they can't get caught on themselves and tangle.

Quick run through the serger and prototype version 2.0 was born.

Problem solved. I used some mitten clips to keep the cover from sliding down the cord (an improvement from version 1.0) I'm gonna test this one out for a bit, but I think it's gonna work. Easier and more fun than making hats.
